How It Started
Enlighten Technology was founded in 2013 out of frustration with how IT support was being delivered to Hawaii businesses.
At the time, too many organizations were relying on mainland providers who didn't understand the realities of operating in Hawaii — long shipping times, limited local vendor options, and the expectation that problems could always be escalated "later." When systems went down, help was often slow, impersonal, or unavailable when it mattered most.
On the local side, IT support frequently meant confusing jargon, vague pricing, and little accountability when things didn't go as planned.
Enlighten was created to be different.
From the beginning, the focus was on building systems that actually worked in Hawaii. That meant planning for delays instead of assuming overnight fixes, designing environments that could withstand failures, and solving problems locally whenever possible.
It also meant being straightforward with clients. Pricing was explained clearly. Recommendations were tied to real business needs, not upsells. And when mistakes happened — because they do — Enlighten owned them, fixed the issue, and made it right. Clients didn't pay for errors.
In the early years, the company grew quietly through word of mouth. Condo associations, professional service firms, and local businesses referred others not because of aggressive sales or long-term contracts, but because they knew what to expect: clear communication, dependable support, and follow-through.
As the business matured, so did its approach to security and risk. Over time, Enlighten invested heavily in practical cybersecurity expertise. The goal was never compliance theater, but a deeper understanding of how real-world systems fail — and how to protect them in ways that make sense for Hawaii businesses.
Today, Enlighten Technology remains guided by the same principles it was founded on: transparency, accountability, and systems designed for the real world. The company continues to serve organizations that value straightforward communication, reliable execution, and an IT provider who shows up, owns the work, and fixes problems without excuses.
